St. Patrick's Day Aboard the USS Cúchulain

17 Mar 2020 // Ireland

While many of the celebrations and gatherings normally associated with Human cultural events were disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, I was fortunate to receive an invitation to join the crew of the USS Cúchulain for their St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

The USS Cúchulain, operating within the Ireland region, hosted a variety of activities recognising the heritage and traditions of the Irish people. Although separated by great distances, officers from several vessels gathered through modern communications technology to share in the occasion.

As an Andorian, I have always found Human cultural traditions fascinating. Humans seem particularly fond of finding reasons to gather together, celebrate their shared history and enjoy one another's company. St. Patrick's Day appears to combine all three.

Throughout the mission I had the opportunity to meet officers from across the region, learn more about Irish customs and participate in a number of informal discussions regarding local history and culture. While I cannot claim to fully understand Humanity's enthusiasm for colouring everything green, the sense of community was unmistakable.

What impressed me most was the determination shown by Starfleet members to maintain their friendships and traditions despite the challenges of the pandemic. Even though many officers could not gather in person, the spirit of the celebration remained very much alive.

I would like to thank the officers and crew of the USS Cúchulain for their hospitality and for making me feel welcome during the festivities.

May good fortune accompany them until our paths cross again.
